This year I had my birthday all weekend

Usually I don’t make a big deal about my birthdays in terms of celebrating. I invite my closest friends for a drink or two which about sums it all. I must admit, though, that I am one of those who want the world to know about my B-day. :P

This year my loving Scorpio 25th October was different. Very. I was celebrating it not 1, not 2, but 3 days! In Bled! :) I spent 2 nights in a gorgeous Villa Alice in Bled, having dinners in one of the finest restaurants in Bled, or could say in Slovenia: restaurant 1906. But this is only a minor part of unforgettable weekend of great food, sports and playing a tourist attractions. An entire weekend I was playing a role of a domestic tourist which is a gift as itself. :)

We took off from Ljubljana on Friday afternoon. I left all my worries at home, packed my bags and computer (I cannot leave my house for 3 days without it, don’t ask … :P) and welcomed the sun to join me on the way to Gorenjska. :)

We arrived to Bled around 5 to 6 pm. When I entered Villa Alice, I could hardly hold all the joy! :) Furnished in old baroque style with finest details it was love at first sight.

First I swung myself on a wooden swing on the terrace (I don’t have picture of it). The housekeeper was looking at me with most surprised eyes. :D I guess he is not used to relaxed playful girls in early 30s to jump from room to room and rejoice themselves just because of some gorgeous armchairs. ;) When I finished with my craziness it was time for the lake. The villa is placed right next to the main road there and it only takes minutes to the promenade. I changed myself to running clothes for a tourist jog around the lake. :) But first it was time for a small drink to celebrate this weekend, that seemed to serve us with a lot of beauty.

We had dinner at 8 pm in the restaurant 1906. We were pampered with menu of meticulously prepared and decorated food in company with white wine. In the restaurant’s name lays the year when hotel Triglav was built and the train between Bled and Trieste constructed. It presents the finest culinary experience in Bled, reviving traditional dishes with modern twist.  A really fancy restaurant with very kind waiters, that speak numerous of languages.

On Saturday we got up quite late. :) We had breakfast in Triglav hotel to gain energy for the hills. I was in Bled many times but I had never seen it from the top. :) First we went to Ojstrica hill, believed to be the photographer paradise. No wonder! From the top you can see true beauty! So magnificent and just perfect for photoshooting. :) Next one was Little Osojnica, and the last was Big Osojnica, both of them with beautiful views. :)

When we got back down, we needed coffee to plan the rest of our day. The idea? Boat! :) Yeeeee, I have never been in the famous island. Let’s go! :) We rented a boat for an hour, and of course I was the one with the paddles in my hands. ;) When we got to the stairs on the island, I was running to the top … twice. :D I really enjoyed the surprised looks of the Asian tourists, staring at me like I am crazy or something. :)

Of course I was paddling ;)

Oh.. did I mention I stepped into the lake? ;) I am not myself if I don’t do it. The water wasn’t too cool so I stood there quite a few minutes. :) After 2 circles running around lake in the evening, still testing my new Mizzuno running shoes, we had dinner in 1906 to finish a perfect day with style. ;)

On Sunday it was the B-day: my Birthday and Bohinj day. :) I got up early and all excited about all the fb and sms messages I will get from my friends. :D After a cup of coffee for the last time in Villa Alice and a coffee in vila Preseren we took off to Bohinj. :) We rented bikes and drove around the lake. This was the first time for me as well. It is quite challenging to ride around it due to roots and stones. But we made it. :) We made a short stop in Ukanc on the wooden pier to take some photos. :)

I was stunned by the autumn beauty caught in the trees around Bohinj lake. Absolutely magnificent! So gorgeous in all the shades of yellow, brown and red … I must say the lake looks even prettier than in summer. Not to mention that there were no crowd on the shore. Just perfect.

We cycled to the hut by the Savica waterfall to grab something to eat. I ordered mushroom soup with buckwheat porridge mmm. :) It is a bit cold to cycle in late October, I must say. In temperatures like these steep slopes are actually welcomed. :D

On the way back to Ljubljana we took a turn to Pokljuka and finished our weekend with homemade meat salad. I get tired of restaurants quickly, I prefer eating at home. ;)

I am still full of beautiful scenes and great memories. Till next year! ;)
