Kolpa river and its beautiful source

My friend had a brilliant trip idea for the last Saturday. Again to a place I have never been before: the source of Kolpa river. :)

As aways I had done a small research on the internet about the location, parking, fees and so forth. Strangely no information can be found! I mean, NO information! OK, I knew it was in Croatia not far from the border, but I was counting on the web to give me the details. Good old asking the people was our signpost. :P And on the way I decided to write a blog post with detailed information how to get there. This is not the one. ;)

We headed to Osilnica through Kočevska reka and the famous serpentine road called Strma Reber. Famous among longboarders, because here the worldwide (!) competition takes place. It is indeed dangerous and I can only say all respect to everybody who dares to drive this road with anything that is not a car. :D

On the border we asked a kind officer for a directions and on a road in the middle of woods (could say in the middle of nowhere) a funny thing happened. After a sharp turn a man was standing in the midle of the road with a branch in his hand yelling at m to stop the car. :D At first I was like “What the hell is he doing?!” :D But then he explained that they were tearing down the trees so we had to wait. Last February the ice caused a lot of damage in the woods and they are still fixing it.

We asked him and another woman for directions, and after parking we went for a half an hour walk toward the source. By 30 minute I mean without all selfies and video recording. :P

When we got to a meadow suddenly a blonde woman ran towards us, saying “hi” in every possible language. :P She looked pretty silly before she introduced herself as the representative of Tourist Board of National park Risnjak. She gave us some information about where to go and what to do in Risnjak. I mentioned her I couldn’t find any information online, and she nodded with the weariness in her eyes. She was complaining, that she is trying to convince the board about the importance of the online content. I may send her the link to my blog post. :D

On the path to the source I witnessed one of the most touching nature scene ever. By the river there was a small flock of white butterflies. I quietly approached with the phone to capture the moment. They were not afraid, but refused to sit on my hand …

I was surpries by the picturesque colour of the river at its very beginning. it reminds me of Soča river, with its emerald greenness. A few small groups of visitors and two of us in so peaceful place … wThe information table saying Kolpa has only 7 degrees, but a young German was swimming in it! :D Crazy! I was only standing in the river and it hurt! :D It was really something special in the peaceful and quite place where mass tourism has not landed.

After an hour of pure nature we got back to the car. I greeted my new white friends again. :) We had a plan to swim in Kolpa ourselves (where she has more than 7 degrees :P) so we headed towards Dol. But first … coffeeeee! :D I was dreaming of it all day. :P

I actually dislike bathing when the masses are so we drove all the way to Radenci to find a secret place to jump in. We didn’t find the spot so we stopped at Madronič house for 15 minutes swim. It was already 6 p.m. so it was pretty chilly. :) We finished the trip with a dinner in Kanu restaurant.
